Our Youngest Smiles
As the proud dad of twins Gracen and Garrett, “Dr. Brent” knows that smallest smiles are often the sweetest. As a dentist who enjoys treating children, Dr. Nail has found that children do very well with fillings and other procedures when given careful explanations of dental procedures. We work with your child to determine the pace of the first visit. Once your son or daughter is happy and confident, we will perform a thorough cleaning, fluoride treatment and any necessary x-rays. As a dentist for children, Dr. Nail’s ultimate goal is to guide their dental growth and development, helping them avoid future dental problems while gaining great memories of their visit to the dentist.
Preparing Your Child
Before your child’s first visit, we encourage you to prepare him or her for this new experience. For young children, there are excellent children’s stories that describe a visit to the dentist. Our personal favorites are Dora the Explorer-Show Me Your Smile, A Visit to the Dentist and Barney Visits the Dentist.
How Old Should My Child Be for the First Visit?
Dr. Nail, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child’s first dental visit be scheduled around his/her first birthday. This important visit sets the stage for a lifetime of good oral health, so Dr. Nail spends time screening your child’s first teeth for any early signs of decay and provides education and pointers to parents. Dr. Nail and his staff at Athens
Oconee Dentistry build trust with your child to put him or her at ease for future dental visits.
